Wokha defeats Chumoukedima in low-scoring thriller
Wokha held their nerves in a low-scoring thriller to defeat Chumoukedima by 14 runs in the 5th Late G Rio Men’s U19 Tournament at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium on April 8.
Opting to bat first, Wokha struggled against a disciplined Chumoukedima bowling attack and were bowled out for just 78 runs in 21 overs. Shahil Uddin Laskar’s gritty 18 proved vital in giving Wokha a fighting chance.
Despite the modest target, Wokha turned the game on its head with a fiery bowling display. Krishna Kumar was the hero of the day, delivering a match-winning spell of 6 for 21 in 9 overs. He was ably supported by Ravi Kumar Ram, who produced an exceptional 4-wicket haul, conceding just 1 run in 5 overs.
Chumoukedima, chasing 79, collapsed under pressure and were bowled out for 64 in 22.2 overs. Yanselong top-scored with 17, but the rest of the lineup failed to provide support.
Krishna Kumar was named Player of the Match for his game-changing performance, as Wokha celebrated a dramatic and hard-fought victory.
Mokokchung routs Tuensang by 154 runs
Mokokchung delivered a commanding all-round performance to thrash Tuensang by 154 runs in their 5th Late G Rio Men’s U19 Tournament clash held at Sovima Cricket Ground, Chümoukedima on April 8.
Batting first after Tuensang won the toss and chose to field, Mokokchung put up a competitive total of 187 runs in 39.4 overs. Amongti Lkr anchored the innings with a composed 42 off 76 balls, while Imkongmemba added a brisk 37 to keep the scoreboard ticking in the middle overs.
Mokokchung’s bowlers then stole the spotlight, delivering a ruthless display. Amongti Longkumer followed up his batting heroics with a stunning bowling spell, claiming 5 wickets for just 20 runs in 9.1 overs. He was well supported by Sungjemmongba, who ripped through Tuensang’s batting with 4 for 8 in 7 overs.
Tuensang’s innings never took off, as they collapsed to 33 all out in 19.1 overs. Phololi’s 8 runs was the highest individual score in an otherwise dismal batting effort.
Amongti Longkumer was deservedly named Player of the Match for his all-round brilliance.
