76th Republic Day celebrated in Mokokchung

The 76th Republic Day was celebrated at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on January 26, 2025, with Deputy Chief Minister and Minister in Charge of Home and Border Affairs, Nagaland, Yanthungo Patton, unfurling the national flag and delivering the Republic Day speech.

Altogether, nine contingents comprising DEF Mokokchung, 2nd NAP, 13th IRB, Home Guards, Ex-Servicemen, NCC MGHSS, Bharat Scouts & Guides, and the Pipe Band (2nd NAP) participated in the march past. Assistant Commandant of the 2nd NAP Battalion, Alichen, Medemkala Tzudir, served as the Parade Commander, while ABI of DEF Mokokchung, K. Meren Jamir, was the second in command.

The District Administration and the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) Mission Shakti, under the aegis of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao—an initiative of the Ministry of Women & Child Development—awarded a commendation certificate to UBI Imlichila as a BBBP Champion. She is currently serving as the Officer-in-Charge of the Women Police Station, Mokokchung, and was recognized for her commitment and dedicated services in promoting gender equality and ensuring the safety and dignity of women and girls. The certificate was presented by Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton.

Other highlights of the program included cultural performances by the Aosungkum Cultural Club, Mokokchung Village, and the Longsalong Cultural Club, Mokokchung.

The Deputy Chief Minister also inaugurated exhibition stalls set up by various departments, including the Agriculture Department, SARS Yisemyong, ATMA, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Department, Cooperation Department, Horticulture Department, District Rural Development Agency, Mokokchung District Legal Service Authority, Land Resources Department, District Industries Centre, and Health & Family Welfare Department.

In the evening program, an exhibition football match and a penalty shootout (ladies) were held between teams from the Agri & Allied Departments and the Engineering Wing Department, as well as a “Rest of the Departments” team.
