Advisor Khamo stresses on importance of tax awareness

Dimapur, 10 April (MTNews): “Tax is a new thing for many people in the State, for which, there may be challenges while implementing the taxes laws,” Advisor for CAWD & Taxes, Kudecho Khamo said emphasizing the need for creating awareness about tax in the state.

According to the advisor, the department may face challenges in implementing the taxes laws for the department is ‘very new to the state’. He stated this during his felicitation program organised by the Department of Taxes at the Commissioner of State Taxes Training Hall on Monday.

 

The advisor for Taxes while stressing the need to create awareness said that tax is a must for all-round development and that “every citizen has a responsibility to contribute in as much as they avail the privileges made available for them”.

 

The advisor said the Department of Taxes, though considered one of the smallest departments, stands as the main backbone of the State government. He went on to say that besides all-around development programs of the State government, “thousands of employees get their salaries out of the taxes collected by the department”.

 

He then expounded that every employee of the department has a great role to play in the well-being of the State.

 

He went on to express his gratitude to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for reposing his faith and giving the assignment of CAWD & Taxes. While acknowledging the department for rendering their service with utmost sincerity and dedication over the years, he asked the officers for full cooperation and dedication to uplift the department.

 

He further invited the department for new ideas and valuable suggestions from all quarters to work together as a team.

 

Earlier, a welcome and introductory speech was given by Gregory Thejawelie, IAS, commissioner of taxes, the event was chaired by Y Mhathung Murry, Spl. Commissioner of State Taxes, the vote of thanks was delivered by Wochamo Odyuo, additional commissioner of state taxes.
