A brazen attempted armed robbery was thwarted at the State Bank of India (SBI) Chedema branch in Kohima on Friday afternoon.
According to a release from the Kohima Police, “At approximately 12:30 hours, an unidentified male suspect, armed with a pistol and threatening the use of a body-worn explosive device, entered the bank and demanded money.”
The police informed that the “swift and courageous intervention of the on-duty bank security guards prevented the robbery.” The guards reportedly “successfully recovered the entire looted amount and seized the pistol from the suspect.”
Despite their efforts, authorities said, “the individual managed to escape from the scene.”
A case has been registered at the North Police Station, Kohima, and “a full investigation is underway to apprehend the suspect,” the release stated.
Kohima Police have also appealed to the public to “remain vigilant and report any relevant information or suspicious activity” immediately.
