Mokokchung, September 27 (MTNews): Mokokchung Police personnel have arrested six persons in connection with the September 21 Changtongya abduction case.
Mokokchung Police informed in a press statement that in the wee hours of 26th September, 2022 during conduct of area domination, patrolling and MVCP, Mokokchung Police initially arrested four accused persons from Akhoya Village Gate Junction and later two more persons were arrested.
It was also informed that arms and ammunition of various calibers and many war-like equipment were recovered from the arrested accused during the operation.
Shedding more light on the whole episode, Mokokchung Police stated that on 21 September 2022, a written complaint was received at Changtongya Police Station stating that Ramakant Giri, Senior Supervisor of Nitin Sai Construction Company went missing from Changtongya. On receipt of the said complaint, search and rescue operations were immediately initiated and a case was registered, Mokokchung Police said.
A Special Investigation Team led by Aketo Chishio NPS, SDPO Tuli was set up and upon investigation, it was ascertained that the NSCN-K (YA) was involved after receiving a ransom call from a cadre claiming to be from the said faction.
During the conduct of a massive search and rescue operation, the victim appeared at Changtongya Town on 25 September around 7:00 PM. Medical examination was immediately conducted and he was found to be in good health with no signs of any physical harm, the police reported.
However, the police continued with the operation resulting in the arrest of the 6 accused. The 6 arrested persons, including 5 cadres of the NSCN-K (YA), were identified as Wangyim SS Captain, Triloi village, Myanmar; Wengkha, SS Sergeant, Nyenching village, Myanmar; Peyau, SS Corporal, Koshoi village, Myanmar; Hangsha, SS Corporal, Chenloishu village, Mon; Imkongakum, SS Sergeant Major, Akhoya village and Aosunep, Akhoya village.
It was reported that, during investigation, all accused arrested admitted to their involvement in the abduction case.
