As Nagaland revels in Hokato Hotozhe Sema’s historic Bronze Medal win in the Men’s Shot Put F57 Final at the Paris Paralympics 2024, Diethono Nakhro, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, has highlighted the urgent need for enhanced support for disability sports in the state.

Nakhro praised Hokato’s remarkable achievement, stating, “This victory is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and unyielding spirit, representing a proud moment for India and the State of Nagaland.” She stressed that Hokato’s success sets a new benchmark for athletes across the nation and serves as an inspiration for young disabled sports persons.

Highlighting the necessity for increased investment, Nakhro said, “By investing in infrastructure, training facilities, and funding for para-athletes, Nagaland can cultivate many more world-class competitors who can reach the pinnacle of international competition, just as Hokato has.” She pointed out that this is an opportune moment to focus on promoting and supporting disability sports.

Nakhro’s call to action comes on the heels of the State Government’s announcement of a ¹ 1.5 crore reward for Hokato, reflecting its commitment to promoting excellence in sports, particularly within the disability community. “Such support not only boosts the morale of individual athletes but also sends a powerful message about the value of inclusion in sports,” Nakhro noted.
