The Department of Commerce, in collaboration with the Department of English, MGM College, organised an educational excursion to Meghalaya from June 3 to 5 with the objective of promoting experiential learning and exposing students to the rich natural, cultural and historical heritage of the region.

The excursion was undertaken by a team of nine members, comprising seven students from the Department of Commerce and two faculty members, Ms Vikeduonuo Zumvu of the Department of Commerce and Mr Jemsungba of the Department of English.

During the tour, the team visited several prominent tourist and heritage sites in Meghalaya, including the picturesque Garden of Caves, known for its waterfalls, natural caves and unique rock formations; the majestic Umiam Lake, one of the most celebrated man-made lakes in the Northeast; the iconic Elephant Falls; and the renowned Mawsmai Cave, famous for its naturally sculpted limestone formations.

The group also explored Ward’s Lake, a historic artificial lake surrounded by landscaped gardens, and visited Nohkalikai Falls, one of the tallest plunge waterfalls in India. In addition, the participants visited the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, gaining insights into the region’s religious and architectural heritage.

The excursion provided students with an opportunity to learn beyond the classroom through observation, interaction, teamwork and cultural appreciation. The exposure helped broaden their perspectives while fostering cooperation and responsible travel.

The programme concluded successfully, reflecting MGM College’s commitment to holistic education and its efforts to combine academic learning with real-world experiences.
