Mokokchung, September 20 (MTNews): The Food Corporation of India (FCI) is a central government agency in charge of managing the distribution of food grains throughout the nation.

The FCI has a Food Storage Depot (FSD) in Mokokchung which is located in Khensa village.

Rongsentemjen, Depot in-charge, and Durgesh Thingujam, technical assistant, discussed the functioning of the FCI FSD Mokokchung during a press conference in the FCI godown (Food Storage Depot) on Tuesday.

It was informed that the FCI godown in Mokokchung has a storage capacity of 3132 metric tonnes and can hold approximately 65000 – 7000 bags of rice. As of the time this report was filed, the godown was at 86% storage capacity with 2,681 metric tonnes of rice, according to Rongsentemjen.

He continued by stating that every month, between 150 and 250 truckloads of rice arrive at the Mokokchung godown.

He did, however, note that the Food & Civil Supplies Department’s PDS system is the conduit of distribution and that the FCI does not directly distribute to the general public.

Additionally, he stated that the National Food Security Act is being implemented by the FCI to carry out programs of the central government.

According to Rongsentemjen, FCI Nagaland has a division headquarter in Dimapur and five godowns in five different districts, including the one in Mokokchung.

On a quarterly basis, the FCI also distributes food grains (fortified rice) towards the mid-day meal program in the district, including Longleng district.

Durgesh Thingujam, technical assistant at FCI Mokokchung, also spoke about the application of treatments to the stocks at the godown and quality control of rice grains.
