Incessant rainfall triggered a flood-like situation in Tizit under Mon district on Sunday, inundating residential areas, disrupting road connectivity and prompting the evacuation of residents from vulnerable locations.
According to the district administration, widespread flooding and severe waterlogging led to the partial submergence of houses in several colonies as water levels continued to rise throughout the day.
At least 500 houses have reportedly been affected by the flooding.
Road connectivity has also been severely disrupted. The Mon–Tizit Highway (NH-712) was partially submerged, while a landslide along the Longlam–Oting road left travellers stranded after heavy machinery could not be deployed because of the inaccessibility of the affected stretch.
The Medical and Industrial areas of Tizit were among the worst affected, with many residents stranded due to rising floodwaters.
An Integrated Command Post has been established at the Additional Deputy Commissioner’s Office to coordinate rescue and relief operations. The administration said evacuation of residents has begun despite strong water currents.
Personnel from the Police, various line departments, community first responders and volunteers from several civil society organisations have been deployed to carry out rescue operations and assist affected residents.
The district administration said it is closely monitoring the situation and urged people living in vulnerable areas to remain alert, cooperate with rescue teams and follow official advisories as heavy rainfall continues.
