Mokokchung, August 7 (MTNews): Governor of Nagaland Prof. Jagdish Mukhi on Sunday extended Biam and Metemneo greetings to the Khiamniungan and Yimkhiung communities respectively.

Mukhi said that the Biam festival is celebrated as a thanksgiving to God for a bountiful harvest.

“Khiamniungans emphasize on the importance of food grain storage and consider empty granaries a taboo. Traditional rituals performed during the festival reflect the harmonious coexistence of the community with the environment,” he said.

Meanwhile, the governor also said that during Metemneo celebrations, the Yimkhiungs seek blessings for bountiful crops – millet in particular.

“It is on this occasion people pray for the deceased souls and also for a good harvest. The five-day celebration has different significant rituals being performed each day. Traditional rituals of this festival reveal the importance of proper sanitation and hygiene,” he said.

Mukhi further extended warm greetings to all the people of Nagaland, especially Khiamniungan and Yimkhiung brothers and sisters, and wished all good health, happiness and prosperity.
