Mokokchung
The incessant rain and poor drainage facilities in Tseminyu have caused a massive landslide at Tseminyu Ward 8. More than five houses and other properties worth crores of rupees have been damaged, though fortunately, there were no casualties. The Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ) has appealed to the district administration for the rehabilitation of families affected by the natural calamity.
The RSZ has also demanded compensation from the Disaster Management Authority and appealed to all citizens of Tseminyu to contribute cash and kind to support the affected families.
Meanwhile, a house in Kichutip Ward, Mokokchung was shifted about three feet from its original position after a landslide struck it, with the weight of the debris pushing the structure on Sunday evening, September 14, between 5:30 pm and 6:00 pm.
According to the house owner, Lanuchuba, the incident occurred while children were studying inside the house. He lives there with five other family members. The floor of the sitting room has been adversely affected. ”We can’t sleep here at the moment. The house keeps moving. So we have been sleeping in the kitchen at the moment,” said Lanuchuba. He further mentioned that they have not yet approached the district administration but have informed the ward authorities about the incident.
More landslides were also reported where two families have been located over looming threats.
