In a recent development, sources close to the party have confirmed to this newspaper that the Nagaland Congress has submitted a formal report to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) urging action against its former president, K Therie. The move comes in response to allegations of Therie’s defiance of the AICC Central Election Committee’s decision regarding the selection of Supongmeren Jamir as the party’s official candidate.

Therie reportedly stands accused of not only opposing the committee’s choice but also shirking his campaigning responsibilities despite being designated as one of the party’s star campaigners. Reports suggest that he convened a meeting of certain Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) officials at his private residence to protest against Jamir’s candidacy.

Furthermore, it has been revealed that several officials who initially supported Therie’s dissenting stance later retracted their support upon realizing the party’s firm stance on the matter.

However, the decision from the AICC is yet to be known.

In a related development, former Ghaspani-1 AC Congress candidate, Akavi N Zhimomi, faced expulsion from the party following an emergency meeting convened on May 24, 2024. The decision, as announced by Kutoho Chishi, President of the Dimapur District Congress Committee, includes Zhimomi’s expulsion from the party for a duration of six years with immediate effect.

This action was taken based on the recommendations put forth by the NPCC Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) report. It was emphasized that the decision to expel Zhimomi was made in accordance with Rule 6(b) of the INC Constitution & Rules, under the authority vested in the party’s disciplinary framework.
