MGM College celebrated its Literary cum Cultural Day on February 9 at the college auditorium under the theme “Echoes of the Past, Tales of the Present,” bringing together literature, culture, and creative expression in a day-long programme.

The event was attended by noted singer and songwriter Alobo Naga, proprietor of Musik-A Academy, as the Guest of Honour. The programme was hosted by Anohika and began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Alobo Naga, along with Dr R K Behera, Principal of MGM College; Fr Gigu George, Administrator; Ahikali I Jakha, Head of the Department of English; and Lisathung Ovung, Dean of Students.

An invocation was led by David Phom, Assistant Professor in the Department of History. In his welcome address, Dr R K Behera spoke on the role of literature and culture in shaping identity, values, and critical thinking among students. Alobo Naga was later felicitated in the presence of the Principal and the Administrator.

A special drama presented by the Sahitya Club of the Department of English highlighted the importance of preserving culture and heritage amid social change. In his keynote address, Alobo Naga encouraged students to remain rooted in their traditions and to take pride in their tribal identity. He also spoke on blending traditional elements with contemporary art forms to reach wider platforms. His address was followed by a live musical performance.

The post-inaugural session featured literary competitions, including debate, slam poetry, art, and essay writing. Cultural presentations such as folk fusion songs, traditional dances, fire-making and winnowing demonstrations, traditional attire displays, and a talent show showcased the region’s diverse heritage.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Disong Waineikum, MGM Cultural Secretary, and a benediction by Nikaho Awomi, MGM E U President.
