The Southern Angami 2nd Open Wrestling Championship was held today at Viswema, organized by the Jordan Group Viswema, with Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, MLA and Chairman of DPDB Kohima, as the special guest.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso emphasized the need to promote wrestling at a professional level. Citing Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, he advocated for Naga Wrestling to be played across all districts rather than being confined to specific tribes. Drawing a parallel with the Nagaland Super League, where players earn significant incomes through professional engagement, he stressed that wrestling could also be developed into a professional sport and a viable career. The MLA also noted that the state government is actively working towards youth empowerment and supporting sports as a means of livelihood.
In the senior category, the champion, Atuo Thevo, won Rs. 80,000, while the 1st runner-up, Neithongulie Kuotsu, received Rs. 60,000. The 2nd runner-up, Visakhol Mekro, bagged Rs. 40,000, and the 3rd runner-up, Kevime Vitsu, earned Rs. 20,000. The five quarter-finalists, Kelengol Rhetso, Mhaneikholie Kuotsu, Savio Sachü, and Kelengol Kikhi, were each awarded Rs. 5,000.
In the junior category, the champion, Vidil Sachü, won Rs. 20,000, the 1st runner-up, Viketol Thol, received Rs. 15,000, and the 2nd runner-up, Visweyie Rote, earned Rs. 10,000. The 3rd runner-up, Meyiekhoto Virha, was awarded Rs. 5,000.
