With donations from both well-wishers and the Sangtemla Sanitation and Decoration Committee (SSDC), volunteers of the SSDC and Sangtemla Youth Association (SYA) were spotted along the highway, painting the railings from Sangtemla Police Point to HDFC Bank in Mokokchung.
Imtikumzuk, Secretary of the SSDC shared their initial attempts to seek assistance from the Municipal authorities but later decided to take matters into their own hands, volunteering their time and resources.
Kumzuk appealed to the public to uphold the same standard of cleanliness for public spaces as they do for their homes and surroundings. Expressing joy and satisfaction over the initiative, he said, “There is an intrinsic satisfaction and happiness we derive from contributing positively to society.”
Encouraging citizens to keep the town clean, Kumzuk asked, “If we give our best effort, why won’t we be able to maintain the cleanliness of Mokokchung?”
Bendangsangba, President, Sangtemla Youth Association, alongside dedicated youth volunteers, commenced painting on 23 March 2024, and have committed to the project until it is over which they expect might continue till 26 March.
