As the monsoon retreats, attention has returned to the deteriorating IOC-Rotary junction road in Mokokchung, with citizens hoping that repairs will be carried out soon.

The project, valued at Rs 2.42 crore, was awarded to Northeast Enterprise, Dimapur, earlier this year in May and is expected to be completed within eight months. The contract also includes a two-year defect liability period. Due to the ongoing monsoon, only the initial work focused on leveling and potholes repairing were done. Back in May, it was informed that once the rains subside, carpeting and drainage work will be carried out.

Speaking to MT, MMC councilor Imtiyapang said the work is expected to resume by the end of October or the beginning of November, depending on weather conditions. “It is risky to begin construction while it is raining, so we are waiting for suitable weather,” he said. He added that work might even start sooner if weather conditions permit, but assured that it will definitely commence by the last week of October or early November.

Citizens have expressed hope that the road, an arterial road in the town, will finally see proper repairs after prolonged delays due to seasonal weather.
