Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) S Supongmeren Jamir on June 24 attended the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Phek.

Addressing the meeting, Jamir urged DISHA members to proactively sensitise the public so that more people can benefit from government schemes. He said that with government employment opportunities becoming limited, people should explore entrepreneurship and other livelihood options. Highlighting the district’s potential, he said Phek is well-suited for farming and animal husbandry due to its vast land resources.

Jamir expressed concern that no new beneficiaries have been added under the old-age pension scheme since 2017 and assured that he would take up the matter with the concerned ministry. He also stressed the need for timely disbursement of victim compensation and called for the elimination of unnecessary delays. He further informed the meeting about initiatives aimed at improving telecommunication connectivity in various parts of the district.
