The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has directed that all flood relief and rescue operations at the district level be coordinated exclusively through the respective District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) to ensure the smooth, equitable and accountable distribution of relief materials.

In a circular issued on Tuesday, NSDMA Secretary Sentiwapang Aier said the directive was necessitated by the extensive damage caused by heavy rainfall, landslides and flash floods across the state.

The authority appealed to NGOs, church organisations, civil society organisations and other well-wishers intending to provide relief assistance in cash or kind to route their contributions through the office of the Chairman of the respective DDMA.

According to the circular, the measure has been introduced to avoid duplication of relief efforts and to ensure that assistance reaches all affected families and villages.

NSDMA has also shared the contact details of the DDMAs across the state to facilitate coordination and urged all concerned to treat the directive as “most urgent” and ensure compliance.
