Nagaland University celebrated its 32nd Foundation Day on September 6, 2025, at the Medziphema campus. The venue for the Foundation Day rotates annually among the campuses, giving each the opportunity to host the main program.
The celebration began with the hoisting of the University flag by the chief guest, Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik, Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, followed by the University Anthem led by the EU, School of Agricultural Sciences, Medziphema campus.
Prof. Patnaik, in his address, expressed satisfaction over the improvement in the NIRF ranking of the University and praised the efforts of his predecessors in bringing the institution to its current stage. “Nagaland University is at its peak on this 32nd foundation day,” he remarked, while encouraging the gathering to pursue “excellence, hard work, dedication and thinking out of the box” to achieve greater heights.
Following the tradition introduced by Prof. Patnaik, the Vice Chancellor’s Awards 2025 were presented to outstanding achievers. Awards were given across categories such as Best Teacher, Best Non-Teaching Staff, Best Research Scholar, and Best Student from each campus. A special award was also conferred on Dr. Biplab Pal, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Physics.
Speeches were delivered by Prof. Dipak Sinha, PVC, Medziphema Campus, and Prof. N. Venuh, PVC, Kohima Campus. Registrar Dr. Abemo described the Foundation Day as a moment of thanksgiving and remembrance, calling for a minute of silence in tribute to former employees of the University.
The program featured special choir performances and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Anthony V. Richa, Deputy Registrar, NU, Medziphema campus. Simultaneous foundation addresses were delivered at Lumami by Prof. Mithilesh Kumar Sinha and at Kohima campus by Prof. Buno Liegise.
