Nagaland University students excelled at the recent All India Inter University Pencak Silat Championship 2024–25 held in Bengaluru. Organised jointly by Bengaluru North University and Kristu Jayanti College (KJC), an autonomous institution, the competition took place from April 14 to 16, 2025. Athletes from Nagaland University won a total of five medals, including two gold and three bronze. Of these, one gold and one bronze were secured by female athletes.
The championship, hosted by Kristu Jayanti College, saw participation from 68 universities (men and women), with over 750 athletes competing. The team from Nagaland University was led by Mr. Mesanguto Meru, Assistant Director of Sports, who served as the team manager.
Prior to the competition, the University’s Sports Section, headed by Deputy Director of Sports Dr. Harish Kumar Tiwari, identified top players from the University and its affiliated colleges through open trials. Mr. Kevin and Ms. Liike Kibami won gold medals in Tanding (Sparring), while Mr. Akhumse A. Sangtam, Mr. Puloka K. Achumi, and Ms. Niepuleno Suokhrie secured bronze medals, also in Tanding.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik extended his congratulations to the winning athletes and appreciated the efforts of the Deputy Director of Sports and the Team Manager for this remarkable achievement.
