The construction of a new transmission tower at Okpu Road in Mokokchung’s Artang Ward has been completed as scheduled, an update from the Transmission Division, Mokokchung, Department of Power informed.
According to sources, a huge landslide occurred on the 66kV Mokokchung-Tuli Single Circuit Transmission Line August 1, 2021, “presenting a hazard to the tower and its surrounding areas.” The transmission line acted as the key link in providing power to three districts – Mokokchung (Tuli Area) – Mon – Longleng.
“After thorough inspection and analysis of the unforeseen crisis, the Department along with the District Administration and the concerned ward authorities took up the matter on priority and a new tower was completed in May 2022 which could prevent the hazardous collapse of the tower and disruption of power,” the update read.
