Peshu Students’ Union celebrates 25th anniversary

The Peshu Students’ Union (PSU) reached a historic milestone as it celebrated its 25th anniversary on January 12, 2026, at Peshu Village in Noklak district. The occasion was graced by MLA and Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, Chairman DPDB Shamator, S Keoshu Yimkhiung, as the special guest.

Addressing students and community members, Yimkhiung emphasized the need to change the way youth perceive physical activities. He said sports should no longer be viewed merely as a “fun activity” or hobby but as a professional career pathway. Encouraging the youth to identify and nurture their hidden talents, he said dedication and discipline could help transform sports into a sustainable livelihood. He highlighted that the modern sports industry offers vast opportunities for those who remain focused and committed.

In his capacity as Chairman of DPDB Shamator, Yimkhiung also stressed the importance of youth-led development for regional growth. He challenged PSU members to use the 25th anniversary as a launching pad for excellence, not only in academics but also in sports and physical resources.

Congratulating the union on completing 25 years of service, MLA and General Secretary of the Nagaland Football Association and Chairman of the NSL Governing Body, Benei M Lamthiu, lauded PSU’s emphasis on sports. Addressing athletes and youth, he described sports as a vital tool for community building and urged players to uphold fair play and unity, noting that discipline learned on the field is essential for achieving life goals.

Prior to the formal session, the Silver Jubilee Monolith was unveiled, followed by the hoisting of the PSU flag.

The Silver Jubilee celebration was attended by village elders, student leaders, and delegates, marking a quarter century of the union’s commitment to the student community of Peshu.
