Phek Village restricts import of piglets, backs local livestock sourcing

The Phek Village Council has decided to restrict the import of piglets from outside its jurisdiction for rearing purposes, opting instead to promote local sourcing of livestock.

The decision was taken during the village’s annual council meeting held on March 31 at the Phek Village Community Hall, where several resolutions were adopted for the welfare and holistic development of the village for the 2026–27 period.

According to the resolution, the restriction applies to both big and small piglets, with the Council aiming to ensure healthier and safer livestock farming practices within the village.

The Council also reaffirmed its support for the resolution of the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO), which calls for a ban on the import of pigs from outside the state.

Among other decisions, the Council resolved to construct a common village graveyard. MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, who attended the meeting, assured funding for the project.

The meeting was chaired by Phek Village Council chairman Thupuve Vero, while Rev. Vesito Venuh, Pastor of Phek Village Baptist Church, invoked the blessing. The program concluded with a closing prayer by Kuzhohu Soho, Pastor of CRC Phek Village.
