Mokokchung, 10 October (MTNews): Major repair works on NH-2 stretching from Km 117 (Sewak Gate) to Km 156 (DEF) in Mokokchung were completed last year. However, potholes are already appearing on the newly paved surface, raising serious questions about the workmanship and quality control measures adopted. The potholes seem to have multiplied after the latest monsoon season.
This stretch of the highway passes through the heart of Mokokchung town. Mokokchung Times conducted a casual survey of the road from the waterfall marking the boundary between Alongmen and Tongdentsuyong Wards to Grace Hall in Arkong Ward near Imkongmeren Sports Complex, a distance of roughly a little over 1 kilometer. The survey found that the major damages on the road surface were concentrated in five areas (see images below), while minor damages were found throughout the entire stretch.
