Longchar Learning Institute, a coaching institute in Mokokchung town, just opened its doors in 2023 with a focus on Class 9 and 10 mathematics and science for both the NBSE and ICSE boards.

Located at Salangtem ward, next to UCF Church in Mokokchung, the institute was founded by Dr Lanuyanger Longchar in the hope to inspire as many Nagas as possible in pursuing careers in science.

“Our Nagas have this innate fear of math and science,” he said and explained that due to this fear, people commonly have preconceived notions about how difficult science and math are.

Longchar, who himself has a PhD in science, said that his primary objective is to help students overcome the apprehension towards math and science by imparting knowledge of the fundamentals in the ‘most straightforward manner possible at the lowest possible cost’.

“I’ve now arrived at the opinion that we need to inspire the children and stimulate their interest in science-related fields,” he said, adding, “in order to achieve it, one must start with the basics and motivate children while they are still in school’.

The learning institute, according to Longchar, has at present four faculty members with all of them having a science background.

Longchar is a former student of Queen Mary Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung and Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Kohima. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Bangalore University, as well as his B.Ed from OPJS University in Rajasthan and his doctorate from Nagaland University.
