Nengneithem Hengna, founder of Runway Nagaland, along with 11 women artisans, represented Nagaland’s banana fibre handicrafts at Rashtrapati Bhavan during a special interaction hosted by President Droupadi Murmu.

The artisans and weavers from the North Eastern states were invited in recognition of their craftsmanship and cultural contributions supported by the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation.

The invitation followed the collaboration of North East artisans in creating handcrafted pieces for the Republic Day 2026 “At Home” reception invitation collection at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The collection highlighted the traditions, natural materials and indigenous craftsmanship of the eight North Eastern states.

Speaking on the occasion, Hengna said Runway Nagaland created a basket using banana fibre and bamboo to honour women artisans, promote the conscious use of natural resources and recognise the value of indigenous crafts.
