“With the coming of technology, everything is done online. The Geospatial map will help people locate important places and landmarks in Salangtem ward at any time through online mode,” said Lanuakum, Chairman, Salangtem Ward Yimden.

Land, houses, roads, ward lanes, trees and forests, river, culvert/bridge, garbage collection points, electric poles, PHED meter house, pathways, building distribution, and key landmarks and sites in the ward will be located using GPS. Geospatial technology may be used to measure and analyze roads and areas.

The day also marked the observance of World Environment Day, as a part of which Salangtem ward residents planted and adopted roughly 300 orange trees to commemorate the day. Residents of the ward adopted the trees at the initiative of the Ward Yimden, Salangtem Youth Union, and Salangtem Youth Fellowship. At least 200 orange trees are expected to yield fruit in the near future, according to the ward authority.

The Salangtem Ward Sanitation Committee also collected and submitted 400 kgs of plastic waste from the ward to the Mokokchung Municipal Council. The sanitation committee also distributed simplified brochures in Ao and English on how to manufacture compost from kitchen waste to all the households in the ward. “The material is provided with the goal of reducing at least 20% of kitchen waste,” the ward chairman said.
