Section 144 CrPC promulgated in Diezephe and Tsithrongse villages following tensions over land dispute

Chümoukedima, 11 February (MTNews): Commissioner of Police Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie has promulgated prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC in Diezephe and Tsithrongse villages under Chümoukedima district following tensions over land dispute that occurred on Saturday morning. The order comes with effect from 6 pm today till further orders.

Earlier incidents of discord resulted in property damage, including the vandalism of cemeteries, village signboards, gates, and a market shed. Additionally, a house was set on fire. Sophie noted that law enforcement authorities have successfully contained the situation, deploying police personnel and District Magistrates to maintain order.

The prohibitory order restricts the assembly of more than five persons and the carrying of lethal weapons and firearms, such as lathis, daggers, machetes, sticks, spears, catapults, or any other dangerous articles within Diezephe and Tsithrongse villages. The order also covers the road stretch from Singrijan village towards Urra Village.

Furthermore, Commissioner Sophie directed all arms license holders in Diezephe and Tsithrongse villages to deposit their licensed arms at the nearest Police Station with immediate effect.
