Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh addressed the ongoing crisis in the state during a ceremony to commemorate Nupi Lan, acknowledging the fragility of the current situation and the challenges in finding a permanent solution.

“The state and central governments have been putting all efforts to bring a permanent solution. However, bringing a solution will take time as the situation has become chronic and fragile,” Singh stated. He highlighted the concerted efforts of both the central and state governments, but emphasized the need for patience as the issue persists.

During the ceremony, Singh also addressed the re-imposition of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in six police station areas. He confirmed that a request for its review and withdrawal had been made to the central government, appealing to the public for cooperation in restoring peace.

The annual Nupi Lan commemoration, which honors Manipuri women’s resistance against British colonialism in 1904 and 1939, saw Singh praising the bravery of the women, drawing parallels with the Seven Year Devastation (1819-1826), and linking it to contemporary issues surrounding public safety. He acknowledged their contributions to multiple sectors, including social, economic, artistic, cultural, hospitality, and sports.
