Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) conducted an inspection of the ongoing road metalling work between Sitimi and Seyochung HQ on March 17, 2025, raising concerns over its quality and adherence to standards.

In a press release, SVSU stated that despite prior notification, no representatives from the Border Roads Organization (BRO) were present during the inspection. The union observed several shortcomings, including poor compaction, lack of proper drainage, and absence of cross slopes essential for effective water management. It noted that the work does not comply with Indian Road Congress (IRC) guidelines, and critical drainage structures such as culverts and ditches have not been installed as per design standards.

SVSU President Longtili C Sangtam stressed that the roadwork must be completed within the jurisdiction before the monsoon, strictly following IRC parameters to ensure durability and safety.

Following the inspection, SVSU submitted a representation to the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Seyochung Town, urging immediate corrective action. The union highlighted the urgent need for proper drainage, compaction, and adherence to construction standards to prevent future road deterioration.

“In light of these serious concerns, we urge the competent authority to take necessary corrective measures to ensure the quality and sustainability of this project. Proper drainage, compaction, and adherence to road construction standards must be prioritized,” SVSU stated.

SVSU also sought the ADC’s intervention in addressing these issues with the concerned department and contractor at the earliest.
