Wokha hosts awareness program on Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection

The Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection (LMCP), Wokha, in collaboration with the Consumer Rights Organization and the Wokha District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, organized an awareness programme on 23rd September 2025 at the VDB Hall, Wokha Town. The event was held under the theme, “Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection: The Journey Towards Viksit Bharat 2047.”

Delivering the keynote address, Assistant Controller, LMCP Wokha, T. Aimong, stated that Viksit Bharat 2047 is not merely about infrastructure or technological advancement, but also about ethical and economic growth rooted in fairness, accountability, trust, and security in every business transaction. He emphasized that the business community is the backbone of economic development and urged all traders to be responsible, law-abiding, and uphold ethical standards in their business practices.

Renthungo Mozhui, General Secretary of the Wokha District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, thanked the department for organizing the program specifically for the business community. He encouraged traders to adhere to government rules and regulations and to be responsible in managing their businesses.

A detailed session on the Legal Metrology Act and Packaged Commodities Rules was delivered by Inspector, LMCP Wokha, Silo Jemu. He highlighted the importance of proper weight and measurement, the consequences of non-standard practices, and the need for awareness regarding product authenticity. Key consumer protection aspects such as manufacturing and expiry dates, net quantity, and penalties for violations were also discussed.

A brief speech was delivered by Vungathung C Murry, President of the Wokha District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who appreciated the initiative and encouraged continued collaboration between the department and the business community.

The programme concluded with an interactive session involving traders and businessmen, providing a platform for open dialogue, clarification of doubts, and mutual learning.
