Lotha Students’ Union suspends closure of educational institutions
Wokha, 13 February (MTNews): Following the appeal for suspension of the ongoing agitation at Wokha District from MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe and Achumbemo Kikon, the Lotha Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have called off the National Highway No.2 shutdown. According to the CSOs, it was done to enable them to negotiate with the concerned contractor and government authorities.
The CSOs noted the steps taken by the Nagaland government and relevant departments to address the concerns raised. They cited a directive from the Chief Engineer, National Highways, Nagaland, urging the contractor, TTC Infra, to resume project work within ten days, by 17 February 2024.
They announced that the ongoing bandh shall be put on hold, subject to re-imposition, under the following terms and conditions: The suspension of the blockade will be in effect from midnight on 13 February to midnight on 17 February, subject to review. During this period, the offices of the Deputy Commissioner and the Sub-Divisional Officer, NH, Wokha will remain closed until the completion of necessary demolitions and land acquisitions of paid structures and plots of land.
Furthermore, discussions involving Lotha legislators, government authorities led by the Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang, and the contractor M/s TTC Infra India Pvt Ltd “will do the needful to settle the issue, at the earliest.”
The CSOs expressed gratitude for the support received during the agitation and called for continued cooperation when needed.

In a separate statement, the Lotha Students’ Union thanked the All Nagaland Private Schools Association (ANPSA) Wokha Unit and all educational institutions within Wokha District for their cooperation during the recent unrest. They announced the suspension of the closure of educational institutions imposed on 11 February.
While appreciating the support received, the union emphasized that further disruptions could lead to the reinstatement of the bandh and appealed for ongoing collaboration from educational institutions.
