In observance of World Day Against Child Labour 2026, the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Tseminyu, in collaboration with the 3Shelf Project, organised a programme under the theme, “Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults,” at the DCPU Office, Tseminyu.

The programme highlighted the importance of protecting childhood through access to education, opportunities, and safe spaces for learning.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner of Tseminyu, Japheth Woch, emphasised the role of education and reading in empowering children and creating pathways to brighter futures. He said every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and realise their full potential.

Woch also inaugurated the DCPU Tseminyu Reading Corner, established in collaboration with the 3Shelf Project to improve access to books and encourage reading habits among children and young people.

Sharing the journey of the 3Shelf Project, founder Aleno Sale said the initiative began with a simple idea of sharing books from a personal collection to make reading more accessible. She noted that the project has established reading spaces in parks, rehabilitation centres, and creative spaces, with the Tseminyu Reading Corner becoming its eighth reading space.

The programme was chaired by Vekhotolu Curhah, ADEO, DCPU Tseminyu, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Kvulo Kent, Project Coordinator, Child Helpline, Tseminyu.
