All Nagaland Pre-Service Teachers’ Association (ANPSTA ) alleges lack of transparency, says vacancies filled without open advertisement

The All Nagaland Pre-Service Teachers’ Association (ANPSTA) has alleged that no open recruitment for primary teachers has been conducted in the state for the past 11 years, raising concerns over transparency and fairness in the hiring process.

In a statement issued by Hitovi I Murrumi, President ANPSTA and Chalievi-I Dahou, General Secretary ANPSTA, the association claimed that despite hundreds of teachers retiring annually, vacancies continue to be filled without open advertisement, denying qualified aspirants the opportunity to compete for posts.

The association further alleged that between 700 and 800 teachers retire each year, yet no corresponding recruitment process has been initiated. It stated that the absence of open recruitment has contributed to a shortage of subject teachers in many primary schools, even as authorities maintain that there is an excess of teachers in the system.

Describing the situation as detrimental to the education sector, the association alleged that the continued lack of transparency has led to frustration among aspiring teachers, many of whom have either crossed the age limit, shifted careers, or lost hope of entering the profession.

The association also claimed that since 2018, only two primary teacher posts have been publicly advertised, leaving a large number of aspirants without access to recruitment opportunities.

It further stated that repeated appeals, including RTI filings and representations to the authorities, have not elicited any meaningful response, adding that the situation has contributed to a growing perception that recruitment processes lack fairness.

The association cautioned that continued inaction could intensify dissatisfaction among aspirants, with demands for transparent and merit-based recruitment likely to grow stronger in the coming days.
