People and village authorities from 12 villages along the Wokha-Bokajan road have welcomed the Nagaland Cabinet’s decision to pursue National Highway status for the road.

The villagers expressed appreciation to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Roads and Bridges Minister G. Kaito Aye for the decision, saying the road serves as an important link to the foothill areas and Dimapur.

They said its proposed upgrade as a National Highway would provide shorter and more convenient connectivity and bring developmental and economic benefits to the region, particularly the farming community. Improved connectivity, they said, would facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce and provide farmers better access to markets.

The village representatives also urged the Centre to approve National Highway status for the Wokha-Bokajan road. They acknowledged the efforts of Lotha legislators in pursuing the matter with the Centre.

The 12 villages are Longsa, Ekoktchu, Pongidong, Tsungza, Khumtsu, Meriyan, L. Yanthung, Totsu, Hanku, Phiro, Shaki and Sankiton.
