The 15th edition of the United Young Club Open Volleyball Championship 2023 organized by the United Young Club which commenced on 3rd January concluded today with Citizen Club ‘A’ lifting the title at Moalenden Village in Mokokchung District.
Rongsentoshi Jamir, President, Mokokchung District Martial Arts Association (MDMAA) gracing the closing program as the ‘closing visitor’ stated that volleyball plays an integral part in Naga society and that it works as an agent in fostering unity and peace. He further emphasized that Nagaland today has seen vast improvements in the field of sports and athletics and thus a scope in volleyball for sportspersons is very viable.
Jamir also encouraged the organizers and stated that events as such give platforms for emerging talents and provide a grassroots stepping stone in promoting and nurturing their talents.
He went on to advise the players to stray away from intoxicating substances and acquire good discipline morally, mentally and physically, as inculcating progressive habits will lead them closer to a successful career.
The final match was won by Citizen Club ‘A’ against Eagles Club ‘A’ with New Chungliyimti bagging third place.
Individual prizes were awarded to Reshitemjen from Eagles Club ‘A’ for Best Spiker, Akangtoshi from Citizen Club ‘A’ for Best Setter, Chubamanen from Eagles Club ‘A’ for Best Libero, Kimongsosang from Eagles Club ‘A’ was titled the Emerging Player and Yongkongtenzuk from Citizen Club ‘A’ was awarded the Player of the Tournament while Lions Club was awarded as the Best Team.
