Mokokchung, December 10 (MTNews): As part of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence that started on November 25, a panel discussion on the theme “Violence Against Women – A Violation Against Human Rights” was hosted by the District Administration and Sakhi One Stop Centre, Mokokchung at Jungshinokdang Hall, Clark Theological College, Aolijen, Mokokchung on December 10 to mark its culmination.

 

 

 

Nodal Officer Sentilong Ozükum, SDO (C) Mokokchung during a briefing about the Sakhi One Stop Centre (OSC) informed that the One Stop Centre is an initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India (GOI). The State Resource Centre for Women (SRCW) under the aegis of Nagaland State Social Welfare Board (NSSWB) is the Nodal agency to implement OSC in the State and provides services including emergency response and rescue services, medical assistance, assistance to women in lodging FIR/NCR/DIR, Psycho-social counseling, legal aid and counseling, shelter and video conferencing facility to all women including girls below 18 years of age affected by violence due to attempted sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, trafficking, honour related crimes, acid attacks, emotional, psychological and economic abuse irrespective of caste, class, religion, region, sexual orientation or marital status.

 

Ozükum further informed that the OSC located opposite to the Nurses Hostel, School of Nursing, IMDH, Majakong Ward, Mokokchung can be contacted through the women helpline 181/ 9485239098 or 03692225077/6909638829.

 

During the panel talk on the topic, “Violence Against Women – A Violation Against Human Rights,” Dr. Akala Imchen, an associate professor at CTC Aolijen, focused particularly on violence against women in Naga society; Limasenla Jamir, Assistant Professor, FAC, Mokokchung, spoke about the causes and manifestations of violence against women in Nagaland, and T. Ngipchem Konyak, Doctoral Scholar, CTC, Aolijen, and Pelesevi Mor, MTh II, CTC, Aolijen, respectively, presented on the topic with a focus on the Konyak and Angami Nagas.

 

Following the panel discussion, Bendangrenla S Longkumer, Assistant Professor, FAC, Mokokchung, led a panel discussion where issues including the inheritance, psychological and mental abuse, participation of women in politics were discussed.

 

The welcome address and introduction to the program were delivered by Prof. Rev. Dr. A. Temjen Jamir, Principal, CTC, Aolijen. The vote of thanks was presented by Vitolu, EAC, Mokokchung, the program’s chairperson, while Rev. Dr. A. Tali Ao, Associate Professor & Dean, CTC, Aolijen, pronounced the benediction.
