17-year-old Venü Vadeo triumphs at 30th Chozuba Range Wrestling Association Meet

In a thrilling display of strength and skill, 17-year-old Venü Vadeo emerged as the new champion at the 30th Chozuba Range Wrestling Association (CRWA) meet held in Chozuba town.


The young champion, hailing from Rünguzu village, and son of Zaseta Vadeo, showcased remarkable prowess, weighing in at 96 KG and standing 5.11 feet tall. Venü Vadeo secured the top spot and walked away with a prestigious cash prize of Rs 1,00,000.

The second position went to 27-seven-year-old Rükülhu Phese-o from Rünguzu village. Weighing 80 KG and standing 5.7 feet tall, he claimed the runner-up position and earned a cash prize of Rs 80,000.

Venüto Nyekha, aged 23, from Chozuba Town, secured the third position. Weighing 80 KG and standing 5.10 feet tall, Nyekha received a cash prize of Rs 60,000. The fourth position was secured by Vekhosazo Dozo, aged 34, weighing 90 KG and standing 5.10 feet tall, earning him a cash prize of Rs 40,000.

In the under-16 category, Khriethoveyi claimed the first position, followed by Mudeyi Ringa in the second position, and Thujosa Dozo and Dutu Sapu securing the third and fourth positions, respectively.

The event, graced by Kudecho Khamo, Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, highlighted the importance of sports discipline and urged athletes to envision their future beyond their sporting careers.

Khamo also emphasized the need for a society free from alcohol, substance abuse, and excessive gadget use.

Khamo announced that the upcoming 3rd Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024, scheduled from 12-17 February in Chumoukedima, will be an alcohol and tobacco-free zone at the Olympic village. He advocated for implementing such practices in future sporting events, including the Chakhesang Wrestling meet in Chozuba Town.

The program was led by CRWA president Dr Chekhwiiveyi Khüsoh, and the oath was administered by Küpopra Rhakho, Vice-president CRWA.

Chitsoru Vasa, Deputy Director, Rural Development, Government of Nagaland, later attended the event as the guest of honor.
