The 17th Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy 2024 organized by the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA) got underway today at the Multipurpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung with Temsuchuba Jamir, SDO(C), Mokokchung a the inaugural patron.

A total of 19 teams from across Nagaland are participating in the tournament featuring almost all of the top active volleyball players in the state. The tournament will conclude on September 20 with the Ozumi Volleyball Team seeking to defend the title.

The inaugural patron of the tournament, Temsuchuba Jamir, SDO(C), Mokokchung, in his speech, appreciated the MDVA for successfully organizing the tournament consistently, thereby promoting young talents at the grassroots level. Highlighting the importance of games and sports on a broader scale, he mentioned that apart from the career opportunities in the field, games and sports have a profoundly positive impact on society at large as they foster social cohesion and deter sportspersons from indulging in unhealthy lifestyle practices. He also suggested the idea of pursuing a community-driven initiative to establish a sports academy in Mokokchung for the benefit of youngsters from Mokokchung and neighboring districts.

About the Tournament
The 17th Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy 2024 is perhaps one of the best managed sporting events in the state. Apart from the cash prize for the winners, the organizers incentivize the participating teams by paying ‘participation grant’ of Rs 5000 each (except for the final four) as well as travel allowances to all the teams coming from outside Mokokchung.

The champions will receive Rs 1,00,000, the runners-up Rs 70,000, and the second and third runners-up Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000, respectively. Additionally, individual players will be recognized for their performances, with Rs 5,000 each being awarded to the Best Spiker, Best Setter, and Player of the Tournament.
