The Nagaland Sport Climbing Association (NSCA) organised the 1st Nagaland Open Top Rope Sport Climbing Competition, bringing together 120 participants from schools and institutions across various categories.
The competition also saw participation from climbers representing the Karbi Anglong Mountaineering Association (KAMA) of neighbouring Assam, providing an opportunity for sporting exchange between the two states.
M Ababe Ezung, president of the NSCA, in his opening remarks, encouraged participants to give their best and develop discipline and confidence through sport while pursuing sport climbing with dedication. He also appreciated the participating schools, parents, officials and others involved in promoting the sport in Nagaland.
The competition provided young climbers with an opportunity to gain competitive experience, build confidence and demonstrate their skills in top-rope climbing. The technical team, officials, volunteers and organisers contributed to the smooth and safe conduct of the events.
The NSCA said the competition was organised to provide young climbers with a platform to compete, learn and develop their skills while generating greater awareness and interest in sport climbing in Nagaland.
The association expressed gratitude to the participating schools, parents, athletes, officials, technical team, volunteers, supporters and KAMA for their contributions. It said the initiative is expected to encourage more young people to take up sport climbing and strengthen the climbing community in Nagaland and the Northeast.
