The first edition of the TM Wati Volleyball Tournament organized by the Rising Star Sporting Club commenced today at Jungli Arjuma, Mokokchung village, with nine teams vying for the title. The tournament will conclude on December 21.

Moasangba Jamir, President, NPF, Mokokchung division, who attended the inaugural event as a guest of honour, noted that while he is not a sportsperson, he is an avid follower of games and sports and has spent many years in the area of developing talents in various capacities.

 

Jamir emphasized that games and sports have always been an integral part of human society in promoting peace and unity and encouraged all teams to participate not for the sake of participation but to bring unity, urging each athlete to give their best effort to win while also being willing to accept defeat with humility in order to achieve professionalism.

 

The winners of the tournament will receive a cash prize of Rs.30,000 while the Runner-up would be awarded Rs.15,000. Individual awards for Player of the Tournament, Best Setter and Best Spiker would receive an amount of Rs.2,000 each.

 

The nine teams participating in the tournament are, namely Lanu Zünga Chuchuyimpang, Rising Star Sporting Club, Anetzübo Sector, Kumlong Sporting Association, Shipo ‘A’, Shipo ‘B’, Bwana Sporting Club, Raven Sporting Club and Soyim Volleyball Association.

 

The inaugural match was played between Anentzübo Sector and Kumlong Sporting Association which was won by Anentzübo Sector by a score line of 25/10, 25/13.
