Shethilu Medeo from Ruzhukhrie Government Higher Secondary School and Iris Zomawii Lushai from Chumoukedima Government Higher Secondary School were selected by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to attend the Sakura Science High School Program, accompanied by Gihukali Sema, PGT, Chumoukedima Government Higher Secondary School, as the supervisor assisting the Indian team.

The Sakura Science High School Program (SSHP), under the broader Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science (SAKURA Science Exchange Program), is a prestigious initiative by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), supported in India through the Ministry of Education, Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL). The program aims to foster scientific curiosity, cultural exchange, and international collaboration among exceptional high school students.

The selection of students was based on criteria set by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (GoI). As per these criteria, Samagra Shiksha/NBSE Nagaland shortlisted meritorious students who had passed their HSLC from Government Schools and are currently pursuing the science stream in Government Schools.

The SAKURA High School Program 2025 in Japan is being held from June 13 to June 21. This 7-day program is sponsored by the MoE, GoI, and includes visits to schools, universities, and various technological and cultural sites in Japan. The students will also participate in activities and deliver brief presentations.
