A two-day capacity-building program was successfully conducted on July 22 and 23, 2025, at the DEO and SDEO office premises in Kohima. The event was organized by the Department of School Education (DoSE) with the aim of enhancing knowledge and practices related to nutrition, balanced diets, food safety, and hygiene among Mid-Day Meal cooks.


The program was graced by the presence of senior officials from the Department of School Education, including the Commissioner & Secretary, Principal Director, Additional Director, Joint Director, and Deputy Directors, reflecting the department’s strong commitment to the success of the Mid-Day Meal Scheme.

Chef Supong, a renowned culinary expert, conducted insightful sessions on nutrition, the importance of balanced meals, food safety standards, and proper hygiene practices. His practical approach and engaging demonstrations provided valuable guidance to the participants.

Approximately 200 cooks from 122 government schools across four blocks within Kohima district participated in the training. The initiative aimed to empower cooks with essential skills and knowledge to prepare nutritious and hygienic meals for school children, thereby contributing to their overall health and well-being.
