Street vending is a vital economic activity and is one of the largest productive units in the informal sector, serving as an important source of employment and livelihood. The Union government has initiated welfare schemes for street vendors like the PM Street Vendors Nirbhar Nidhi (SVANidhi) and the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM), but the benefits of these schemes seldom reach the target group – the marginalized street vendors in remote areas like Mokokchung.
