Kohima, 7 October (MTNews): In an exhilarating match at the ongoing 23rd NSF Martyrs Memorial Trophy at IG Stadium Kohima, United FC Piphema triumphed over Asufü Football Academy with a 2-1 victory in extra time during the third quarter-final clash.

The match kept spectators on the edge of their seats, with Asufü’s dominant possession ultimately undermined by their lackluster finishing.

Asufü began the game brightly and controlled the proceedings but struggled to convert their chances. United FC Piphema seized the opportunity with a counter-attack, breaking the deadlock in the 39th minute when Razoukhrielie found the net, stunning the visiting team to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Asufü fought back and equalized with a brilliant long-range strike from D Chozüulio Paokhamoi in the 47th minute, leveling the score at 1-1. Despite both teams having several chances, neither could find the winning goal during regulation time, leading to a draw.

During extra time, United FC’s striker Ayen Mongba stole the spotlight by scoring the winning goal in the 98th minute, securing United FC’s progression to the next round.

The player of the match award went to goalkeeper Kevichütuo Kire of United FC Piphema for his outstanding performance. The award was presented by Niezokhoto Belho, former ASU General Secretary, and former Tribunal General ASU, who served as the match patron for the 3rd quarter-final.

United FC, in the semis, will play against the winner of the fourth and final quarterfinal match to be played on Monday between F4C Academy and Red Scars FC at 5 pm.
