Kohima, 9 October (MTNews): ‘Goal scoring machine’ Yhunshalo Kemp netted a brace as Red Scars FC defeated F4C Academy 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the ongoing NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy 2023 at IG Stadium Kohima on Monday evening.
The win secures Red Scars FC a spot in the semifinals, where they are set to clash with United FC Piphema on 12 October.
In a closely contested match, Yhunshalo Kemp’s standout performance made all the difference, delivering crucial goals when they were needed most and propelling his team into the next round.
The first half witnessed both teams struggling to break through, with a midfield battle dominating proceedings. F4C Academy found it challenging to breach Red Scars’ defensive line, leaving their goalkeeper with minimal action.
The deadlock persisted until the 80th minute when Yhunshalo Kemp capitalized on a goalkeeping error to slot home the opening goal for Red Scars FC. He further solidified his position as a goal scorer, converting a penalty kick after a foul in the penalty area in the 93rd minute, securing the victory for his team as the final whistle blew.
Yhunshalo Kemp was rightfully named the Man of the Match for his stellar performance. The award was presented by Medo Yhokha, former ASU and AYO President, and former Legislator NLA, who was the match patron.
