New Market FC advances to NSF Trophy Quarterfinals with convincing win

Kohima, 28 September (MTNews): Defending champions New Market FC became the first team to enter the quarterfinals of the ongoing 23rd NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy 2023 on Thursday. Playing the first quarterfinal match at IG Stadium, New Market continued their goal-scoring spree, defeating Mima FC 4-0 to progress to the next round.

In the match, Neisede Peseyie scored the first goal in the 3rd minute for New Market FC. He had a chance to double his lead but missed a penalty in the 5th minute.

 

Awang Khiuwamgbo then scored a stunning goal in the 7th minute to make it 2-0. While Thejasetuo Gwerie replaced Peseyie to take the penalty, his shot hit the crossbar. However, he managed to score two goals in the 24th and 81st minutes, but he would rue his chance to make it a hat-trick, missing the spot kick.

 

Khiuwamgbo of New Market FC was awarded the Man of the Match. Vikholie Yiese, Political Assistant to Salhoutono Kruse, Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Govt. Of Nagaland, presented the award.

Meanwhile, Goal scoring machine Yhunshalo Kemp scored a hat-trick as Red Scars FC humbled All Nagaland Two Wheelers Taxi Association (ANTWTA) 6-0 in the last match of the 2nd round of the ongoing NSF Trophy played at IG Stadium, Kohima on Thursday.

ANTWTA got on a positive start but was undone when Yhunshalo Kemp scored a stunning goal in the 32nd minutes to give Red Scars the lead and the match tempo changed completely thereafter.

He went on to complete his hat-trick scoring in the 35th and 49th minutes. Sentisang, Asito Krose and Sinlo added a goal each at 46th, 55th and 66th minutes to make it 6-0 at the end the final whistle. Red Scars FC will be playing against Viswema FC in the pre-quaterfinal round.

Akuo Zhasa, former ASU leader, presented the man of the match to Sinlo Kent of Red Scars FC.
