Addressing the gathering, Yanthan congratulated the organizers for hosting one of the oldest cricket tournaments in Nagaland. He remarked that this tournament has awakened the people of Wokha town, and over the years, it has grown into a beacon of unity, talent, and shared love for cricket in the region.

Praising the organizers for their vision of connecting sports with environmental awareness, he stated that initiatives like this demonstrate that cricket is more than just a game—it is a platform for influencing positive societal change.

Expressing his enthusiasm for this year’s tournament theme, “Green Cover Drive,” he congratulated the organizers for linking cricket with the pressing need to protect the environment.
Yanthan further encouraged the players to approach the tournament with passion and sportsmanship. He urged them to give their best, not just for themselves but for their teams, and to use this opportunity to showcase their talents and inspire others with their dedication.

Deputy Commissioner & Chairman of the District Sports Council, Wokha, Vineet Kumar (IAS), highlighted the significant potential for career development in cricket and elaborated on the extensive opportunities sports offer in India. He expressed gratitude to SNK for providing a platform for young players. Furthermore, he proposed enhancing the quality of infrastructure and advocated for the inclusion of women in cricket tournaments, recognizing the enthusiasm of many young female cricketers in Nagaland.

Lansothung Shitiri, RFO Doyang Beat/Doyang Afforestation Range Wokha, speaking on the theme “Green Cover Drive,” emphasized that the theme focuses on recognizing the importance of preserving natural resources, reducing carbon footprints, and promoting sustainable living. He explained that individual actions, much like teamwork in cricket, can collectively make a significant impact.

“In Nagaland, we are blessed with breathtaking natural beauty. Our forests, rivers, and wildlife are not only a source of pride but also a vital part of our ecosystem. However, we face numerous environmental challenges, including deforestation, habitat loss, dwindling wildlife populations, and severe climate change impacts,” he added.

Appealing to the players, he said: “As young cricketers, you have the power to make a difference. You can be the agents of change, driving a ‘Green Cover Drive’ that inspires others to join you. As you play cricket, remember that every shot, every run, and every wicket is not just about winning the game but also about winning the battle for a sustainable future. Let us work together to create a better future for ourselves, our children, and our planet.”

Chief Team Metamorphosis, Dr. Thungdemo Kyong, delivered a presentation on the importance of blood donation, sharing a personal experience to illustrate its life-saving potential. He emphasized the vital role blood donation plays in supporting those in need.

Altogether, 13 teams are participating in this year’s tournament. The program was chaired by Leornard Mozhui, while the vote of thanks was proposed by SNK Organizing Secretary, Khyolamo Humtsoe.
