The 2nd Winter Challenge Badminton Tournament, organised by the Badminton Association Khensa (BAK) under the theme “Smashing Barriers,” concluded on December 20 at the Multi-Purpose Community Hall, Khensa. Imkongmar Imchen, Treasurer of Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem and Ao Lanur Telongjem, attended the closing ceremony as the Guest of Honour.

The tournament featured six categories, including 85+, 95+, Men’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Under-13 Boys Singles, and Under-17 Boys Singles, with a total of 75 participants. Winners and runners-up in all categories received cash prizes along with certificates.

In the Under-13 Boys Singles, Chubamayang Imsong emerged champion, while Imtinungsang Longkumer finished as runner-up.

Wacha won the Under-17 Boys Singles title, with Arkutong as the runner-up.

In the 85+ and 95+ categories, T Imlisunep Ao and P Nilakanta Singh claimed both titles, while Temsuyanger, Imtichiba Kichu, S Bendang Imchen, and Tiayanger were the runners-up.

Akumsanen Jamir and Imnawapang won Men’s Doubles, and Tiayanger and Wapongsen finished second.

The Mixed Doubles title went to Lanuakum Imsong and Imlikumla, while Kipangwala Longkumer and Imtichiba Kichu were runners-up.

In his address, Imkongmar emphasized the tournament’s role in providing competitive exposure for young shuttlers and motivating them to improve their skills. He highlighted the importance of physical training and actual competition over virtual engagement. Imkongmar also praised BAK for promoting sports in neighbouring villages and suggested measures to ensure sustainability, including registering as a society and maintaining financial records.

The closing ceremony included a tournament synopsis presented by the Chief Referee, followed by remarks from Imlitemsu, Convenor of the Organising Committee.
