Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE) organized a 3-day workshop cum sports meet from October 15-17, 2024, under the theme “Celebrating Healthy Living: Fitness Mosaic.”
The event kicked off with an insightful session led by Avisa Chase, an Aerobics and Fitness Instructor, Lifeguard and Swimming Instructor, Certified Nutrition Counselor, First Aider, and Physical Education Teacher with the Department of School Education.
He also stated that fitness is about long-term health and well-being rather than appearances. Avisa also provided a hands-on lesson in first aid and shared practical advice on managing diet and stress. His statement, “Eat your food as medicine, or you’ll have to eat medicine as your food,” resonated with everyone, especially in light of the ongoing love for junk food. The much-anticipated Zumba session, also led by Avisa, saw both student teachers and faculty participating with enthusiasm—whether they had rhythm or not was beside the point.
Vizobilie Punyu, a Strength and Conditioning Coach from KISCE, I.G. Kohima, then led an informative session on track marking and officiating. Both theoretical and practical aspects were covered, helping participants understand the precision and discipline required for athletics.
The sports meet featured a variety of traditional and modern games, including cockfight, catapult shooting, bamboo stilt races, kho kho, futsal, and volleyball, blending cultural heritage with contemporary sports.
Overall, the event truly reinforced the theme “Celebrating Healthy Living: Fitness Mosaic,” reminding everyone of the importance of fitness, teamwork, and community well-being through a perfect mix of learning, fun, and healthy competition.
